EB Hilton, born in Era, Texas February 2, 1922 to Enos Bird Spurgeon Hilton and Alice Catherine (Hancock) Hilton, passed this life on September 26, 2010 in Redding, California.

The HIlton family moved to California in the late 20's where they continued farming. EB attended local schools graduating from Van Nuys High in 1940. He enlisted in the Army in 1942 and was in the 104th Infantry Division. Prior to deployment he was sent to Princeton to study and he also taught flight mechanics, aircraft inspection and radio communications at the university.

In 1944, his division landed in France. He fought in France, Belgium, Holland and Germany. He was at the Battle of the Bulge and the liberation of Mittelbau Dora in Nordhausen, Germany. If you or a loved has served or is serving know that EB cared about all of you regardless of rank or branch of service. He never failed to make donations to numerous veteran's organizations throughout his life.

Upon returning stateside he continued his education at Berkeley and graduated from UCLA in 1948 with a degree in engineering. As the design engineer for many major California hospitals he insisted that each patient room have it's own thermostat for individual patient comfort. Discovering the source of Legionnaire's disease earned him a seat on the California Building Safety Board.

His name is on the Global Warming Petition along with more than 31,000 other scientists.

More than his accomplishments, he was a man of character and integrity. He practiced fairness without talking about it and provided equal opportunity long before the government thought of it. He felt he had a responsibility to care for and help people.

He loved fishing, flowers and football, but most of all, he loved Solange, to whom he was married for 68 years.

He was a humble man and a simple man who appreciated quality but had no pretensions.

EB was my Dad. I was blessed to be with him when he died. I will miss him everyday for the rest of my life.

He was buried with honors at Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo on October 1st. Well done, rest easy.

WWAO ATC Swap Fest 2009

Sixteen members of Worldwide Women Artists Online participated in an art swap. Each member created 16 ACEO's and sent them to Sujati in Great Britain so she could distribute them among participants. She also created a beautiful online gallery especially for this swap.

I've neglected my blog for a while being distracted but I'm back to business. These are a few of my new watercolors done in abstract style. Abstracts are new for me so please leave a comment and let me know how I'm doing.

In Remembrance

Thomas Michael Kelly, 41, of Wyckoff, NJ died on September 11, 2001 at the World Trade Center in New York City.

I never met Tom. His name was given to me after I went to 2,996, a site to honor and remember those fallen on 9/11. Neither was I searching for such a site. I happened upon it while surfing blogs on blogexplosion. Interestingly and quite fittingly, Tom was a horse lover like me. I am honored to remember him, may he rest in peace. And may his family and friends find peace as well.

The following is a short bio from Euro Brokers and also included are two photos of 9/11 quilt pieces honoring Tom from United In Memory

For Tom Kelly, Euro Brokers was more than just the place he worked. It was also where he met the woman he would marry.

Tom, 41, was born and raised in Flatbush, Brooklyn. He attended St. Francis College in Brooklyn and started his career on Wall Street working as a trader. He joined Euro Brokers in 1992 as a broker of Sovereign Debt. In 1999, he became the manager of the Emerging Market Debt desk.

Outgoing and friendly, Tom had many friends at work with whom he liked to socialize, play golf, or go out for a good steak dinner. A year after joining Euro Brokers, he befriended a fellow broker named Anne Blauvelt. She moved to London for a year, but upon her return in 1996, the two started dating. Their relationship blossomed into a real romance, and they were married in 1998. Soon after, they moved to a new home in Wyckoff, New Jersey.

Tom had a gift for keeping in touch, and he maintained many close friendships from his childhood as well as his adult working life. He was also very close to his mother and his older sister, who live in Brooklyn. His father passed away several years ago.

Tom loved going to the horse races and particularly enjoyed annual visits with Anne to Saratoga during the summer racing season. He dreamed of one day buying his own racehorse.

Devoted to Anne, who had left Euro Brokers after getting married, Tom would have been proud to see her return to Euro Brokers after September 11 to help the company rebuild.

Thomas is survived by his wife, Anne.

International Online Exhibit

I am proud to announce my participation in an International Online Exhibit. I will be featured along with 33 of my fellow artists.

World Wide Women's Artists Online is an international collective of women artists showing and selling their original art on the worldwide web.

Texas artist, Sharon K. Shubert is the first WWAO member to host this new series of international group exhibits on her website.

The Countries represented are Australia, Bangladesh, Canada, The United Kingdom, and The United States.

The 34 exhibiting artists will be showcasing a variety of mediums and styles. Sharon has put together a creative and interesting show. The exhibit can be viewed starting September 1, 2007 and ending 30, 2007.

All works are offered for sale. Contact information for each artist is available on Sharon's web site.

HiYo

"HiYo" is the title of this original 12 x 12 acrylic painting by Linda Watson.

A gorgeous mare and handsome stallion gaze at each other across an ethereal landscape. Both horses are painted in the Chinese style.

Using a graphics tablet

I recently sold a piece of art and treated myself to a Wacom tablet. I'm pleased and looking forward to making many pieces using this great little tablet with Painter.
